Snow Goose Hunting in Missouri
The state of Missouri is popular for snow goose hunting, especially in the northwestern and southeastern regions, as many geese travel to southern Missouri for the winter and pass through the northern region while migrating in the spring and fall. State bag limits allow large numbers (as many as twenty) of snow geese to be collected. Other types of geese can be hunted as well (White-fronted, Canadian, Brant), but in smaller quantities. Some hunters go on guided hunts to improve their effectiveness and learn additional techniques.
Many people visit Missouri for its plentiful snow goose hunting. Snow goose hunting in Missouri has been featured in “Hunting” magazine, as well as on television (The Outdoor Channel) and in some local publications. Snow geese are some of the more watchful and alert birds, making the knowledge and equipment made available during guided hunting especially helpful. The snow goose hunting season in northern Missouri lasts from late October through late January, and early November through the end of January in the southern and southeastern regions of the state. Dogs can be brought along during the hunt, making it easier to retrieve birds from the water without a boat.
Missouri snow goose hunting guides take hunters to where the geese can be found, using effective decoys and goose calls to enhance their success. Groups of six to ten hunters can be guided, as well as one or two hunters if they join a mixed party. Click here to read more about our guided goose hunting expeditions.
